Happy Birthday Mariska! Today you turned 3. You promptly declared that you did not want to be 3, that 2 was better. You picked out a rocket shaped cake for your birthday. You also told us that we shouldn't buy a car, we should buy a rocket ship instead so we can go to the moon. Very practical. :) You look out the window every night for the moon. You are amazed by the "darks" outside. You still have an obsession with triangles that started when you were 14 mths old. In your 3 years on earth you have amassed more knowledge than any adult and you frequently let us know that your decisions are far superior to our own. :) You make us laugh every day. You are often very serious, which makes us laugh more. You like to ignore us, because it makes us try harder to get your attention. You always request marshmallows for breakfast and Mommy always says, "Marshmallows aren't breakfast food." Then you say, "Marshmallows ARE breakfast food." You climb into bed with Mommy and Daddy every morning at 6:30 for wake-up cuddles. Your favorite page in your picture bible is "rose Jesus." You are afraid of fuzzies. You get grossed out by a booger on your finger and will walk all the way upstairs to have me "take it." You like to do things yourself. (except disposing of your own boogers) You think all ants should die and frequently squash them or demand that we spray them. You feel that even though you are nearly 3 years younger than Katriana, it should NOT stop you from doing everything that she can do. We love every bit of you, Mariska and we wouldn't have you any other way. Now that you are 3, we feel our "baby days" are truly over. You will grow up and do great things. You are strong and beautiful. You will lead people and sometimes you will follow. There are big things ahead baby, so don't rush it. Happy Birthday "Baby Girl!" I have a hard time believing that she is three already. It feels like just yesterday that we were having the baby shower and you were bringing her home from the hospital.
Beautiful post. I think I disagree a bit - she's always going to be a leader, not a follower, with that independent spirit of hers. I do agree that she is destined for great and beautiful things.

I read your whole blog and it was very interesting. We have thought about moving to Australia after Korea because you can work the U.S. night shift there (radiology) during the day. M will be out of the military then and that is something we have talked about. Thanks for sharing your story!
