Fed up with toys that is. Aqua dots were recently recalled and we had the Australian version called Bindeez at our house. I've seriously considered throwing away every single toy in the entire house, but that would make me the worst mom ever and I don't want my children to hate me. I also don't want them to end up ingesting a date rape drug or suffering possible brain damage from excessive levels of lead.
Ugh.
That is how I feel about all of this. Our fairytale Dora missed being recalled by only a couple of months, we've had a few small sesame street figures that were part of the first big recall. Luckily, I was able to get rid of them without a fuss. I also had to throw away the blood pressure cuff in our fisher-price dr's kit thanks to excessively high levels of lead. I wish I had saved the article talking about that recall, but I remember it only affected the red ones. Guess who had a red one?
Anyone want to join me in having a large bonfire??? Specifically, any toys made in China.
Oh wait. That would be ALL of our toys.
And, wouldn't burning the toys just release the nasty lead into the air or something??? OR some other nasty chemicals that are affected by high levels of heat???
Okay, we'll just bag up all of the toys and take them to the dump. That's the new plan.
Anyone with me??

Hey there,
It's been forever. I just got back into the playgroup thing, today. Kendra, Joy, and Shannon were there. I missed you. Thought it might be fun to read what you were up to. We are doing fine. Bethany is talking and walking. Emma will start Kindergarden next year. I'm "homeschooling" pre-school. It's been a blast. Hope all continues to go well for you.
Love,
Ginger
The recalls are insane- and new ones every day. We only had the Diego field journal and a few sesame figures, but the field journal was the hardest to loose. But it really makes me wonder about all the toys we bought at the dollar store- do they even check those? I'm sure they have to have lead in them too- and yeah, it seems EVERY toy is made in china- It will make for an interesting Christmas season.
We have been using aquadots for a while now and I had recently bought a new bag. I guess we will not be using them! Luckily we haven't had any toys--that I have heard about that have been recalled. I guess I should find some sort of website that lists everything so that I can double check that. As Melissa said, it will definitely make for an interesting Christmas shopping season! Several weeks ago the toy shelves at Wal-Mart were bare. I haven't been in a couple of weeks to see whether or not they still are!
Tell the rest of the family we miss them, especially during this time of year!
Fortunately the girls are out of the stage where they put everything in their mouths. That has to be some comfort.
Hopefully the costs of all these recalls, and the public awaremess, will cause some safety reforms in China.
I wasn't aware that lead based paint was even a problem anymore, until all of this came up. Why would a company take that risk in the first place? Defies the imagination.
Yes, it is very annoying. We only have a few Bindeez and our kids are old enough not to put things in their mouths, but what about little visitors? So, the Bindeez have to go. However, as I wondered on my post about where the hair dye goes... what happens once we put all these lethal toys in the rubbish?! What's it going to do the soil when they end up at the tip? Maybe we should just not buy toys anymore... :) I'm sure that would go down well with the kids - not!Sigh... it's an scary world we live in...

Joy
